  10. Shri Muddu Mohana Vittala Dasaru
  11. Shri Tande Muddu Mohana Vittala Dasaru
Brief Jeeva Charitra: Shri Tande Muddu Mohana Dasaru (Shri Narasipura Subbarayaru) was born in 1865 to Smt. Lakshmi Devamma & Shri Sheshappa at Narasipura, a place near Karigiri Kshetra (Shri Devarayana Durga). The upanaya of Shri Subbarayaru was conducted at the right age of 8 years in the august presence of Shri Shri 108 Shri Lakshmipriya Teertharu of Shri Kundapura Vyasaraja MaTha. In few years time, at a very young age, as was the practice then, he was married to a girl Kum.Sou.Achchamma of Narasipura itself. Later in the urge to continue Shastra studies, Shri Subbarayaru approached Shri Chincholi Venkannacharyaru of Bangalore and completed his studies. Shri Subba Rayaru returned to his native place Narasipura after this and later in the urge of adhyAtma sAdhana, started meditating upon Shri Hari Vayu Gurugalu to show him his Atmodhdharaka. Added to this Shri Subba Rayaru had a strong desire to become a Haridasa, which encouraged him to buy a Tamboori. Holding the Tamboori, he was to do nartana sEva during the Rathothsava of Shri Karigiresha. One day, Shri Hari in the form of a Brahmana came to Shri Subba Rayaru, explained him the importance of Ankita and directed him to Shri Muddu Mohana Vittala Dasaru of Dodda Ballapura. Fortunately as Shri Subbarayaru was planning a visit to his Guru, Guru himself came over to Shishya. Shri Subba Rayara happiness knew no bounds. He served his Guru with tanu-mana-dhana and one fine day, with the anugraha of Shri Hari-Vayu-Gurugalu, Shri Rayaru was initiated into Dasa Deeksha with much deserved ankita Shri Tande Muddu Mohana Vittala.

After the dAsa deeksha, Shri Subbaraya Dasaru found a new ray of light and thus increased his meditation in guhas (caves) around Shri Karigiri Kshetra. One fine day he had the sAkshAtkAra of the Indweller (bimba darshana). There upon, the very approach towards life changed for Shri Dasaru. Whatever he saw, became Hari Rupa, whatever he heard, became Hari Nama Sankeertana, whatever he said, became a Mantra. He became an abode of Shri Hari-Vayu-GurugaLu.

Later in the year 1900, Shri Dasaru established an organization (sangha) "Shrimath Sameera Samayanu Pravruttini or Dvaita mata SidhdhantOnnAhini" at Devarayana Durga in a land adjacent to Devasthana for the benefit of sAdhakas/devotees who visited Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Rathothsava at Devarayana Durga. In few years time, this organization came to be known as "Devarayana Durgada Dasa Koota Sabha". Apart from offering Teertha-Prasada to the visiting devotees & satpatras, Shri Dasaru also ensured he propogated Shri Haridasa Sahitya among the visitors.

On one occasion, Shri Bagepalli Sesharaya who was visiting Shri Karigiri Kshetra got deeply impressed by the vyaktiktva (personality) of Shri Dasaru and became the first Shishya of Shri Dasaru. This was the beginning of a new era in Haridasa movement. During the course of time, Shri Dasaru visited Kodugehalli, Irkasandra, Hikkallu, Gubbi, Tipaturu, Devanuru, Shivamogga, Udupi, Anantapur, Adavani, Kautala, Mulabagilu, Tirupati and many other places at least 3 times propogating Shri Haridasa Sathiya & Sadhana Rahasyas to Yogya Jivs and offering them Ankitanama. Shri Dasaru made Bangalore as his Karya Kshetra to reach out to larger audience and to propogate Haridasa Sahitya. Looking at his Dasa deeksha, Shri Satya Dhyana Teertha Swamiji of Shri Uttaradi MaTha appointed him as Examiner for Dasa Sahitya at Shriman Madhwa SidhdhantOnnAhinI Sabha, Tirupati. He was holding this post for 10 years. Also for his oratory skills the Government of Karnataka requested him to offer his "BodhanAmruta" to the inmates of Bangalore Central Jail. Many among those inmates who heard his Vani changed their life after getting released from the jail.

The disciples of Shri Dasaru who had the flavor of his deep knowledge in Vyasa-Dasa Sahitya and his Oratory powers requested him to start a monthly magazine so the devotees in far off places can get benefited. Accordingly, Shri Dasaru started a monthly magazine "Paramartha Chandrodaya". He fixed subscription cost for 1 year as Rupee 1 which is quite negligible so even the poorest of poor can afford it. Many a times, he used to distribute this magazine free of cost during his Yayavara Vrutti.

Shri Dasaru was honored by the title "Parama Priya" by the then Shri Puttige MaTha Swamiji for his contribution to Vyasa-Dasa Sahitya. Shri Dasaru initiated Chitradurga based Shri Bhajane Shrinivasa Rayaru into Haridasa Parampara by offering ankitanama "Shri Uragadri Vasa Vittala". Please note that Shri Tande Venkatesha Vittala Dasaru is the disciple of Shri Uragadri Vittala Dasaru. While Shri Dasaru was at Harihara, he initiated Shri Ranibennur Hayavadanacharyaru into Haridasa paramapara by offering ankitanama "Shri Madhwantargata Vittala". As Shri Dasara Vakya goes "kulavu prAdhAnyavalla jalajanAbhanannu bhajisalu", Shri Dasaru offered dasa deeksha to a Kuruba & Neyga. He initiated Shri C.Hayavadana Rayaru, "a lawyer who was a widower - who was leading the life of a svapacha doing all wrong things one could think of", into Haridasa parampara. In this aspect, Shri Hayavadana Rayaru remembers Gurvanugraha as follows:

"As our Great Gurujee chose this pamara who was a swapacha, a chandala and was styled as the proddatin (Proddatur) Ajamila as his fit disciple to spread his dasakoota cult and literature in these parts; and blessed this soul by reforming and making me to turn a new leaf towards gurumindedness, and Godmindedness.....".

Shri Jayesha Vittala Dasaru (Shri ATTaji Venkatrayaru), a great Jnani & Tapasvi of Mysore, who appeared in the lineage of Shri Mohana Dasaru, once, said to his daughter, "Shri Subbarayaru is not an ordinary person. He is the one who practices BhojanAnuShThAna as said in Shrimad Harikathamrutasara - Bhojana Sandhi. If one listens to Shrimad Harikathamrutasara from him, all the ajnAna will vanish. Listen to Shrimad Harikathamrutasara once in your lifetime from him". This was the regard Shri Jayesha Vittala Dasaru had towards Shri Dasaru.

Shri Dasaru in 1939 returned back to Shri Karigiri Kshetra from Bangalore and stayed at Dasa Koota Sabha till he left his mortal body. He appointed his son Shri Venkataraya Dasaru as the chief-editor of the monthly magazine Paramartha Chandrodaya. Shri Dasaru on one occasion had brought Shri Prana Prateeka from Kadarumandalagi. He decided to install the Prana Prateeka at Dasa Koota Sabha. By then Shri Dasaru had offered Haridasa Deeksha to 1164 yogya Jivas. On PhalguNa Bahula Pratipada (Sunday) - Pramadi Samvatsara, around 11 a.m. he offered Haridasa Deeksha to Shri M.R.Govinda Rayaru of Mysore and gave him ankitanama "Shri Guru Govinda Vittala". Shri Dasaru also mentioned to Shri M.R.Govinda Rayaru that he is his last disciple and in future he would not offer ankitanama. Thus Shri Dasaru offered ankitanama to 1165 disciples. On Phalguna Bahula Pamchami (Thursday) - Pramadi Samvatsara, Shri Dasaru installed the Prana Prateeka at Dasa Koota Sabha and named him "Sundaresha". Since then the PraNa Deva is called "Sundaresha PraNa Devaru". On 16-4-1940 (Vikrama Samvatsara - Uttarayana - Chaitra Shuddha Rama Navami - Tuesday), exactly after 15 days after installing Shri Sundaresha, around 12 noon, Shri Dasaru left his mortal body doing laya chintana & Hari Nama smaraNa.
